The Medium Format Difference

Camera sensor technology has progressed to a point where, for a good chunk of years, digital has surpassed film. The latest full frame cameras boast about having over 15-stops of dynamic range. So why does Dan Lee Photo, along with most commercial studios, shoot some form of medium format digital? Color reproduction. Check out a couple of images below that were shot on our Hasselblad and Fujifilm GFX 50S.

What's exciting is that digital medium format is getting cheaper. You can find digital medium format camera bodies in the portable Fujifilm GFX 50s and Hasselblad X1D selling for only $6,500. (Note: Traditional Digital Medium Format systems like Hasselblad's H series and Phase One's IQ series starts at over $25,000.)

Are you thinking about jumping into digital medium format?

Good Day for Car Wash

I hope you've been enjoying the snow as much as I have. I love snowy days, especially for impromptu photo shoots. :)

There's one thing I can't stand about snow in New York City. Salt. It ruins cars and causes rust to form in places you can't see. It's advised that you wash your car within 10 days of any contact with salt on the roads. And in New York City, where the odds of you having a driveway is slim to none, this means you'll need to take your car to a car wash.

If you're like me you also hate these automatic car washes because of the circular micro scratches that they leave in your clear coat. There aren't too many self car washes in New York, but expect lines to be long when you find one. (Feel free to message me to find out which self car washes I use.)
